Driving Clinics
We are honored to have Curt Pierce of Deep Creek Farm in Mathias, WV come down and teach clinics about driving. Curt has years of experience in driving and we have learned so much from him in the 2 years he has been coming to our farm.
In our driving clinics, Curt covers everything from the different types of harnesses there are to the steps for training a horse to drive. Participants are invited to attend with or without a horse. These clinics are very "hands on", everyone gets an opportunity to harness, hitch, and drive a horse.
Curt has been an equestrian instructor, horse trainer, clinician, and judge for over 30 years. He also breeds Norwegian Fjord and Icelandic horses at his farm.

I audited a Curt Pierce clinic in fall of 2011, and after two days, I had enough information to safely work with my 2 mini's, including fitting them to harness, long lining, and what steps I would need to take to prepare them to one day be hitched to a cart! I now have a whole new way to work with and enjoy my horses, and found the whole experience fun and very educational! Frankie and Jessie of Zion Farms were gracious hosts....I hope to return in the spring and bring along one of my mini's to show our progress!
The clinic was a great experience for me. I have read a lot about carriage driving, but had almost zero hands-on experience. Curt is a great teacher; his approach is easy to follow, and he has a gift for putting horses AND people at ease.
